On Tuesday 27 May, a CIRED preparation day took place at Alliander’s offices in Duiven. It was a valuable opportunity for Dutch paper authors to present their work in advance and to engage in meaningful discussions around the major themes of CIRED 2025. Representatives from Alliander, Stedin, and Enexis were in attendance. As part of Alliander, ENTRNCE was also present.
What is CIRED?
CIRED (Conference on Electricity Distribution) is a leading international conference on electricity distribution. In June 2025, over 2,000 professionals, grid operators, technology companies and researchers will gather in Geneva to share knowledge about the future of the energy system. ENTRNCE has been selected to present our research paper, a great opportunity to showcase our story on an international stage!
Our contribution: local energy exchange in the spotlight
During the preparation day, Pepijn van de Water and Sjoerd Doumen shared the core ideas behind their paper and accompanying presentation. Their key message: there is significant potential for energy exchange between energy communities, business parks, and local authorities. By working together, these stakeholders can achieve substantial cost savings, even in the face of high investments. This conclusion is based on analyses using data from the Trader platform. Since these three parties are often active within the same local contexts, there is a clear opportunity to develop local energy markets. ENTRNCE facilitates such markets through its Trader platform.
Our vision: unlocking the power of local cooperation
We believe this form of collaboration can:
- provide a more targeted solution to grid congestion;
- make better use of local renewable energy;
- contribute to a fair and efficient distribution of investments.
Why this matters for ENTRNCE
With this contribution, we demonstrate that ENTRNCE is more than just a technical platform. We also engage in the development of new market models. Our participation in CIRED strengthens our role as a connector between grid operators and other key stakeholders in the sector, both within the Netherlands and beyond.
The value of the preparation day
The preparation day also provided an excellent opportunity to:
- gather feedback on our message and visual materials;
- meet fellow Dutch participants;
- and strategically consider who we’d like to speak with in Geneva.
And now... on to Geneva!
From 16 to 19 June, Sjoerd and Pepijn will be at CIRED 2025 in Geneva. They’ll present their research paper, engage in conversations with grid operators, policymakers, researchers, and other relevant parties.
Want to learn more about the contents of the paper or curious to see the presentation? Feel free to reach out to Sjoerd or Pepijn. They’ll be happy to share more!
